About Me Planning Your Project Successes White Papers

Step Three

The project plan should be reviewed with the stakeholders and have them sign it to acknowlege they read and understand it.

The next step is gather up the team that was defined in the project charter for the next task to prepare to build the project schedule. This task is to create the Work Breakdown Structure with a stacks of Post Its. Here we take the project defined in the project charter and break it down until we break it down to tasks that roughly will take 80 hours of effort for the cognizant person with the right skill set for the task to complete.

After the project is broken down to about 80 hours of effort tasks, then I have the team to sequence them across the wall in the conference room which defines the sequence for the tasks in the project schedule. I then capture the sequence the team defined in the Project schedule. Then, I go complete the tasks of creating a statistics based schedule.

Next, is with the team identify project risks, define their impact and define mitigations. After the risk work is, done the schedule is updated adding the risk mitigations. I run the schedule statistical analysis again to see where it ends up and make any adjustments needed. I then have the team sign off the schedule to indicate they believe the schedule is accurate and the believe they can complete the tasks in the time defined in the schedule.

I then create the fixed bid for leading the project for the duration of the team agreed schedule.
